Let the La Crosse Fragrance Tell You Its Story
A thunderstorm approaches coming up from Iowa. Smell the ozone in the air with the first crack of lightning. In a little while, a soft floral will reveal itself as you walk down the tree lined streets in your neighborhood. What is it? Do you dare get on your knees to smell the hyacinth in your neighbor’s yard? What if someone sees you? Who cares? Later as you head west toward the river, a clean scent envelopes you. Ah! La Crosse, where the three rivers meet! Can you smell the water?
Next we head east toward the bluffs to Hixon Forest. As we approach, notice the cool scent of the woods. From time to time you’ll be aware of the sweet perfume of the rich soil of the Forest. Smell the moss growing on the north side of a tree. As the forest scent evolves on your skin, it will be manly for a while, then soft as cashmere. It may be mossy and oaky for a few minutes. But it might take turns being just oak and just moss. The fragrances of the forest ebb and flow with the breeze.
